Why are my dog's eyes watering excessively? Is it breed or concern?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 15 days old | 4 lbs

I've noticed that Luna's eyes water excessively all the time and was wondering if it was specific to her breed or if it could be worrisome?

Some breeds appear to have watery eyes more than others because their natural drainage ducts are occluded. This is most common with breeds that have bulging eyes like Shitzus, Chihuahuas, and Pekinese. Dogs can also get blocked drainage ducts, which will cause them to appear more watery. There are some conditions that can increase tear production, so it's good to have a vet check Luna Mae if this is something you recently noticed. Infections and increased eye pressure can also result in increased tear production. I hope that helps and all is well with Luna Mae.
