My cockatiel's poop is hard and sticking to her back. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | 1 year and 3 months old | 0.18 lbs

i have a female cockatiel bird which is 1 year old. 1 bought her 3 months back. She was perfectly ok till few weeks back. Now i noticed that when she poop, the poop is getting hard on her back itself. It gets accumulated in her back itself. I gave her couple of shower, then it gets cleared but again it happens. She is eating good, but she don't eat any vegetables. ashe eats only the multigrain packed food which i buy from store. Also she likes non salted cracker biscuit. What is the reason?

It's possible there is an underlying issue such as an internal parasite or GI upset that is causing her symptoms, even if she is only on her regular diet. Checking the stool itself for any visible parasites or changes in consistency/color may clue you into this. If the stool keeps getting matted, even with bathing, a vet exam is also a good idea to in order to check for parasites, infections or GI problems such as constipation, etc that may be causing the stool changes. Making sure there aren't perches/bedding she could be laying on and laying in her own stool, and keeping her environment cleaned regularly may also help with any matting/stool becoming stuck.
