Why does my dog have black spots on her skin after grooming?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bichon Frise | Female | spayed | 6 years and 7 months old | 16 lbs

My dog got groomed and a few days later started getting these black tinged spots on her body. She's had them for a couple weeks now. 90% sure they weren't on her the day she got groomed. There's about ten of them varying sizes, she doesn't seem to itch them and they don't annoy her when I touch them. Behaviour is totally fine, maybe a bit clingiest (could be to do with the haircut), but is eating and going to the toilet as normal, still excited for a treat or to go out on walks. Any ideas?

Poor Colby! From the picture, it looks like a bacterial infection or fungal infection on the skin. You can try to bathe her in a chlorahexidine shampoo every other day and give her Benadryl twice a day. See link below. Also, don’t let her lick them. You can put a cone collar on her if needed. If they don’t improve or get worse or her behavior changes, I would have your vet take a look at them. Your vet will be able to determine where they are and get her started on the proper meds to make her feel better. I hope this helps! https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/dog/benadryl/
