My dog is still vomiting bile and can't keep meds down. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 9 months and 23 days old | 37 lbs

Thursday afternoon my 30lbs dog ate a mini snickers and two small caramels. He threw up the entire night that day. Friday he had diarrhea and continued to throw up water, he stopped eating. Saturday he showed significant improvement (running, playing & eating). I took him to vet & prescribed him endosorb & metrinodozole-he has not been able to keep any medication down. He continued to throw up sunday-Monday despite not eating & barely drinking. Now tuesday he still throws up only bile & no food.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is crucial to have him re-evaluated as soon as possible for a few reasons. One of them is making sure that he has not become dehydrated. Also, it is crucial to check for other reasons for him to still be vomiting as it is unlikely that he is still vomiting from eating the chocolate. I would be more suspicious of a gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction or pancreatitis. Abdominal imaging should be performed which may clarify this issue and bloodwork should also be considered. Therapy would be based on findings though at the very least anti-nausea medications can be prescribed. It is also possible that he is reacting to his current medications. Good luck!
