Why is my neutered cat peeing outside the box and acting sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 8 months and 21 days old | 6 lbs

My 9 month old cat was neutered about 3 months ago. He has since started peeing outside the litter box. I've tried various ways to stop him..its a very dark yellow and thick. He constantly eats and drinks and is not his usual playful self. He has also become extremely clingy towards me.

There may be a medical issue causes this. I work start with getting a urine sample checked by your vet to see if there is an infection causing this. If all medical test are normal then you can look into behavior problems and get things such as feliway and try a new type of litter box or litter. You may need to adjust his diet or add anxiety medication from your vet to clear it.
