My dog's belly bump went down but is reforming. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 4 years and 7 months old | 5 lbs

My dog developed a bump on her belly. It’s been a month and the bump hasn’t changed in size. I squeezed the bump and I could feel it break apart under the skin. The bump has gone down but seems to be forming again. I read not to squeeze the bump so I will not be doing that again. How can I help my dog? She’s a Yorkie 4 yo.

From the picture it looks to me like an umbilical hernia, which is a hole in the abdominal wall causing internal organs to pop through that hole under the skin, forming what looks like a lump. this is something that will need to be confirmed by your vet and if it is, surgery should be advised.
