My dog has diarrhea, gas, and reflux. Is Pepto safe for her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cairn Terrier | Female | spayed | 14 lbs

My Cairn mix (rescue) is about 3 yrs of age. She has occassional issues with reflux, and the vet office recommended an antacid, if necessary. For the past few days, she had urgency to defecate, her stools are not as firm as usual-light br. She had a little flatulence, but it cleared up after one movement. Fed rice, chicken, 1/4 pepto, and fine. I reintroduced her normal dry food last night, she was shaking , went out, she was fine and slept all night. she's playful, gums pink, ok appetite.

Be very careful using Pepto. It is not recommended you use it frequently in dogs. I think it would be better if you used a probiotic to help regulate her intestinal tract. It will help with gas, constipation and even reflux. My favorite probiotic is Fortiflora but you can use any probiotic made for dogs. Do not use human probiotics or any dairy products. I would use the probiotic for at least 3-4 weeks. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
