Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered
Hello. I have a male labrador (20 months old). He is frequently licking his anus and biting at base of his tail. He is fidgety, not sitting at a place and keeping his tail between his leg and trying to bite it. He was recently treated with an anti parasite medicine. He is not letting anyone touch his tail.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Rambo! There are a few possibilities: Anal gland impaction or infection, fleas, or his tail is sore. The anal glands and a sore tail need to be evaluated by a Vet. Check him for fleas by using a fine tooth comb and brushing him on his back towards the tail several times. If you see fleas stuck in the comb you have your answer. If you see black specks, use a white tissue or paper towel to wipe the specks on to and wet the tissue. If the black specks melt and look like blood streaks that is flea poop. Sore tails or swimmers tail or happy tail are common in labs. It is when they strain there tail muscles. They need pain medications and anti-inflammatories. If you do not find fleas as the cause Rambo should see your Vet. I hope this helps and I wish Rambo a speedy recovery!

You will need to do regular flea prevention as these signs are typical for irritation by flea bites. Roko may also have impacted anal sacs. If, after doing flea prevention the biting and licking does not stop or if you see injured skin,. a bulge near the anus , you need to take Roko to your veterinarian for an exam. Impacted anal sacs need to be evacuated as they are very painful and can also get infected.
