My dog still has fleas. Can I re-dose Advocate early or after bathing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Staffordshire Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 5 years and 5 months old | 26 lbs

Hi, I have used advocate for my dog less than a month ago to treat her for fleas and heart worm, she still has fleas and was wondering if I can use another dose though she isn’t due for her monthly dose until the 18th December? Can I also give it to her today though I only bathed her 2 hours ago?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes, you can give it again as long as it has been longer than 2 weeks. However, you should wait at least 2 more days before using it as otherwise it does not get absorbed well. You can consider using something called Capstar which is basically a product for fleas that has the ability to treat a lot of fleas at once to get better control. Good luck!
