Hello! It has been 2 days since I've adopted 2 kittens. Its winter in my city. Today i noticed that one of the kitten has its eyes watery and there is greenish yellow mucus discharged. He is a bit less active than the other one. Also, the food intake is comparatively lesser than the other one. The previous owner said that the discharge was common since its childhood. Im in doubt whether its due to mere cold or some other reason. Please suggest me, what should I do?

Congrats on your new kittens! No, it's not normal to have a watery eye with greenish yellow mucus discharge. This is an indication of an eye infection, and I would take him into the vet today for an exam. Any eye infection should be considered an emergency, as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. It could be that he has a virus such as feline herpes or chlamydia causing the infection, and it should be treated.

Thanks for visiting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Green discharge from the eyes means that kitty has a bit of an eye infection going on. Take her to your vet for a brief exam and the vet can prescribe antibiotic eye ointment to help resolve this. Until you can get her in to be seen, wipe the discharge away with a warm wet clean cloth to prevent irritation forming underneath her lids. Your kitty's eyes should improve soon with proper treatment. Best wishes and take care.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your kitten. You will need to see the veterinarian as there is a chance of an eye infection. These are common in kittens. The infection may be part of an upper respiratory tract infection. This would be indicated by sneezing and nasal discharge as well. An eye ointment will likely be prescribed and possibly an oral antibiotic. I hope this information helps!
