My dog has brief, rare seizure-like symptoms. What's happening?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

For about two years now my dog gets these seizure like symptoms? It only happens about once every six months or so. His spine arches and he loses his balance, he wobbles and falls down. The episodes only lasts about 30 seconds or less.

He could have epilepsy or he could be having a fainting episode (syncope) from a heart problem. He should be examined by your vet for a workup. Your vet can run lab work and take a chest x-ray to rule out potential causes. If it turns out to be epilepsy, than an anti-seizure medication could be started if the seizures start occurring more frequently.
