My cat's eye is swollen and half shut from a cut. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My cat is 7years old. When she was a kitten she was bit my a dog and it went through the side of her eye and caused her to be blind. A few days ago i notice a cut above her eye, this evening her is half shut and swollen around the eye im not sure if the scratch would of course it or if she's getting problems with the eye. I will be taking her to vets first thing in the morning but wondering if you could give me any advise on what it could be?

You are correct that scratch could have caused her eye to swell (localized trauma), and it would be a good idea to have her taken into the vet as soon as possible. This will be painful to her, and she will likely need pain meds as well as treatment for the swelling. Please do not give her any human pain meds, as many are toxic to cats and can be fatal if given.
