I just got a new puppy three days ago (7 weeks old), and last night he started having diarrhea (pudding consistency and yellow), and then later in the night he began to vomit. He is still playful and has an appetite, but I'm unsure if I should bring him immediately to the vet, or do some things on my own, switch up his food, keep him away from other dogs, ect. He has not had his first shots yet.

Congrats on your new puppy, but I'm sorry he's so ill! This vomiting and diarrhea could be due to intestinal parasites, GI illness, a new diet, or something more serious such as parvovirus. Given that he is active and still has an appetite, then it is more likely that he is suffering from intestinal parasites or GI upset from a sudden change in diet. I would take him into the vet now with a sample of his feces to see if he does have intestinal parasites so that the vet can prescribe him a deworming treatment. With any young puppy, it's always a good idea to have them checked out when they are vomiting and having diarrhea even if they are active and hungry simply because they are so young and do not have a fully developed immune system. In my opinion, it's best to be safe. Because he has not had his first shots yet, he should be kept away from other dogs (unless you know for certain they are fully vaccinated) and places where strange dogs frequent, like dog parks, until he is fully vaccinated.

As your puppy isn't fully vaccinated and is having both vomiting and diarrhea it is best to take her into the vet as soon as possible. Various causes could be to blame such as parvo (highly contagious and serious), internal parasites, stress, other illness or changes. Having a complete exam is best to check for serious issues and provide treatment.

Hi there. No, vomiting and diarrhea in such a young puppy is concerning, and definitely warrants a vet visit to find out what's wrong. He may have a severe intestinal parasite load, an infectious disease like parvo, or some other illness. I would recommend taking Bubus to the vet today to be seen.

Hi there and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There can be many causes for vomiting and diarrhea- viral or bacterial infections or parasitic infections are most common causes in puppies. I would recommend he see his veterinarian soon for an exam to help determine the cause so he can get appropriately treated. Your veterinarian may want to test his stool, so I would you may want to bring a fresh fecal sample with you to the appointment. I hope this helps!
