My dog's limping worse after soft tissue injury. Are bad days normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 11 years and 10 months old | 72 lbs

My boy had X-rays on Monday on his left hip, he’s been limping and not putting weight on it. They diagnosed him with soft tissue damage, level 1, said no jumping stairs running etc., well he’s been resting just short pee and poop walks, taking metacam, and his limping is worse, is it because it’s the end of the day, and he/ it’s tired?? They gave me three weeks of rest, it’s only day 4, is it normal to have bad days, worse at the end of the day? He is eating drinking. But he seems depressed

Is this really a hip issue or does he have a ligament tear in the knee which is much more common. Either way, it is possible to have good and bad days. If the bad days are more frequent that the good you should probably have him rechecked by your vet. He may need stronger medications or a medication change all together. He may need a leg brace (if it's a knee ligament issue). Hard for me to say much without knowing the definitive diagnosis. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
