My cat has diarrhea. Is eating another cat's wet food the cause?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 24 days old | 7.5 lbs

My cat has had diarrhea but no other signs of being ill, he is 6 months old and strictly eats dry food. We recently got another cat who eats wet food and she is very small (rescue) so we keep them separate, however the cat older one eats her wet food whenever he can. Could this be the cause?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could absolutely be the cause. It could be that that diet is causing him dietary indiscretion. It would be best to avoid him getting into the other cat's diet. If it continues despite him not eating that other food, have him evaluated by your veterinarian. Good luck and have a good night!
