My kitten won't eat dry food or use the litter box. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I have a ten week old calico female kitten. Who won't eat dry food and won't use the litter box? I bought litter attract but, I'm afraid to let her out of the large cage I keep her in.

Hi there and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You can dry adding a little wet to her dry food to soften it up and make it a little easier for her to eat with her baby teeth. As far as the litter box goes, I would recommend letting her out of her cage so she can explore and get use to the litter box. Cats will naturally be attracted to the litter box if the box is large enough (should be one and half times the length of you cat) and is a quite and safe area. You can try taking her into the litter box and place her paws in the litter several times so she gets use to it initially. I hope this helps and thanks again for posting.
