When you spay an animal it is better and healthier for them. An intact female has a higher risk of mammary cancer and problems like a pyometra ( infection in the uterus). I highly recommend all animals be spayed and neutered to have them live a healthier, longer life. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Great question! Spaying a female cat does not shorten their life at all. It's better for them health wise, as is eliminates the chance of them developing a pyometra, which is a life threatening infection of the uterus. I highly recommend having it done, there is no need to worry about it shortening their life. That is absolutely untrue :-)
