My cat has ringworm. What oral antifungals and dosages are safe?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 9 months old | 9.5 lbs

Looks like Sunny is having a fungal infection quite like ringworm. I am a MD and I can get acces to medications. I just wanted to know which antifungals are used for dermatophytosis in cats and what's the dosage? We are currently applying Clotrimazole topical ointment on the lesions, but I suppose systemic medications are needed.

Hi there and thanks for posting. I would recommend taking Sunny into her veterinarian to confirm the suspected ringworm. This will be done through cytology and a fungal culture. If your veterinarian believes the lesion is ringworm and it is confirmed through diagnostic testing, then Sunny may need to be on a topical and oral anti fungal medication safe to use in cats. Unfortunately, I cannot make drug recommendations and drug dosage information legally over the internet. My best advise to have Sunny seen by her veterinarian.
