My pet has yellow eye discharge & swollen lid. Is it serious?

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 7 years and 10 months old | 10 lbs

About 1 week ago I noticed yellow stuff coming out of his eyes and now his under lid is starting to swell I don't have a vet were can I bring him and is this really serious or can I just buy some drops at a petco

It's difficult to say how serious this is right now, because I am not able to see the eye. It looks like both eyes are affected, and based on your description, I suspect that this is an infection. It could also be a scratch on the eye if only one is affected. These infections can cause a great deal of damage to the eye if left untreated for too long and will require specific prescription medication to clear-up. I do not recommend getting any over-the-counter products, because they will likely be ineffective without knowing the exact cause of this. I recommend scheduling an appointment with a vet as soon as possible. The vet will be able to narrow down the cause of this in the exam room and can prescribe the most appropriate treatment. There are many in your area and even some non-profit clinics that can help if cost is a concern. I hope that helps and Spaz gets better soon.
