Why is my dog's head shaking, but she seems perfectly fine otherwise?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello. My 2 year old female lab started tonight with a slight head tremor that barely lasted a minute or so. She had 2 small episodes like this. Other than this small tremor, she’s acting perfectly normal. Eating drinking peeing pooping and playing and she’s also alert as normal. Any advice or information is appreciated. I will call her vet tomorrow but would like information as soon as possible from you. Thank you. Please respond as you can, she’s like my child. Thank you.

There is something called essential head tremors are a benign tremor that usually does not progress to more concerning problems. However, other problems can cause the signs you are seeing as well, such as liver disease, low glucose levels, toxin ingestion, and seizure disorders. I agree that she should be seen by your veterinarian as soon as possible. They may recommend lab work to out some of those concerns. Best of luck and I hope she does well.
