My dog's eye changed to darker brown. Is it glaucoma or infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Alaskan Malamute | Male | 1 year old | 115 lbs

something is wrong with my dog's eye, his left eye has changed color to a darker brown. I've taken picture with the flashes on and it doesn't look good. We've already booked an appointment for Friday but can you tell by these pictures that it could be Glaucoma?

Based on the photos of Leo, it does not appear like a typical glaucoma. Glaucoma usually presents with a bluish hue on the cornea and the sclera (the white part) usually looks very red. There's a possibility that the photo is not showing me everything so if the doctor wants to test for glaucoma, move forward with testing. I would be worried about an infection in the eye. Depending on where you live, fungal infections are possible. Neoplasia is also a possibility. I would recommend to try to get into the vet earlier if possible. There's also a potential that you may need a referral to an ophthalmologist. I hope everything turns out alright.
