Why is my dog peeing small amounts often? Could it be a UTI?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 5 years and 1 month old | 16 lbs

I was just wondering could my dog have a uti infection. When outside he pees the first time then about 2 or three more times a couple of drops. Today he's been wanting to go out more than normal and he's neutered. He also eats table food like chips.

This definitely sounds like a urinary tract infection. It could also be secondary to bladder stones or prostate problems (less likely since he is neutered). I would have your vet take a look at him. Your vet will be able to do a urinalysis and prescribe him antibiotics and pain meds if needed. If your vet suspects bladder stones, they will be able to do x-rays or an ultrasound to help rule this out as well. Your vet will also be able to check his prostate if needed. I hope this helps!
