Kitten spay incision red after 6 days. Is it infected or normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 months and 12 days old | 1.5 lbs

I have a kitten that was spayed 6 days ago and I’m concerned that it’s infected. There is no pus or anything it’s just a little red in the area where the incision is. Should I be concerned.

This could be a mild infection but also when stitches are dissolving under the skin (normal process) there can be some minor swelling. I recommend continuing to watch it closely, make sure she isn't licking it at all and if the swelling gets worse, any discharge or pain occurs then your veterinarian needs to recheck her.
