Yorkie's neck growth: Is it cancer after fluid aspiration results?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 9 years and 1 month old | 9.6 lbs

9 year old yorkie has growth on neck. Vet aspirated fluid, filled back up. pathology showed basophilic glassy round to polygonal cells. appear consistent with macrophages and/or deteriorated squamous cells. says findings somewhat concerning for underlying neoplastic process or area squamous metaplasia. Is this leaning toward calling it cancerous? Dog not showing any discomfort . Groomed found growth in May, this is second aspiration

Hello Yes, it sounds like it may be pre-cancerous. I would recommend having your vet remove the mass and submit the entire thing for histopathology to get a final diagnosis and make sure the entire mass was removed. Best wishes to you and Bailey. Thanks for using Pet Coach!
