My dog keeps eating cat poop in the yard. Is he going to be okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 3 years and 10 months old | 15 lbs

In my yard there’s cat poop from my neighbor’s cat. I always try to take my dog away from that, but sometimes as soon as I open the front door he runs and ate it this happened 4 times. Is he going to be ok ?

I'm sorry to hear Chiquitin is eating poop. Certainly eating anything other than their regular dog food has the potential to upset a dog's stomach and could cause vomiting or diarrhea. Most of the time, however, the biggest concern we have when a dog eats feces is the transmission of intestinal parasites. I suspect Chiquitin will be fine, but I would recommend monitoring him for an upset stomach. If he does develop vomiting or diarrhea, I would take him to your vet to be evaluated. If he is otherwise acting normally, I would recommend taking a fecal sample in to your vet in the next few days to have it evaluated for intestinal parasites. If Chiquitin contracted a parasite, he can be started on the appropriate de-worming medication.
