This was the response i was given when i said that my hamster has a mass on the back of his leg where should i go to get this done This could be a benign or malignant growth. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I am really hoping for something benign. Good luck and have a good day!

Most small animal veterinarians are able to do a fine needle aspirate in the office. However, you may have to find a vet that is willing to work with small mammals, like your hamster. Your vet may feel comfortable evaluating the sample herself in the clinic or may recommend sending it out for a pathologist to review it.
