Why is my puppy sick, vomiting, and not eating after deworming?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Airedale Terrier | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 16 days old

I bought a 45 day german shephard female puppy yesterday. She has not eaten anything except for she had cerelac once. We gave her deworming medicine yesterday evening. Since, then she has been inactive and sleeping. She also puked twice and had one loose motion. She is still sleeping.

Poor baby. I'd take to her in for evaluation by a vet tonight (an emergency room) if she's not eating or drinking at all and won't play. Young dogs can get low blood sugar or dehydration rather quickly. There are many possible issues here ranging from her being stressed by travel and a new home, to intestinal parasites, to serious infections like parvo virus, to having something stuck in her intestines. At the vet clinic, she'll most likely be tested for parvo, and receive some fluids and treatment for her vomiting and diarrhea. Good luck to you and sweet Angel!
