Should I switch my cat's urinary prescription food to Science Diet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 4 years and 4 months old | 12 lbs

In 2015, my cat had a blockage due to urinary stones. It happened on the weekend, so I had to take him to the emergency vet where they kept him overnight and had to cath him to remove the stones and gave IV fluids. I followed up with my regular vet a week later, and he recommended I feed him the Hill's Prescription Diet C/D dry food for urinary health. I have been feeding him this since then with no problems. Would it be okay to feed him the Hill's Science Diet for urinary health instead now?

I would recommend feeding Gucci the prescription food. There are no over the counter foods that have been proven to prevent bladder stones and crystals like the prescription food. Since he has had no urinary issues since you started it I would continue the prescription diet also because Gucci is doing so well with it. I hope that helps
