My cat has bald patches and grooms too much. Is it fleas or allergies?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed

Hi. I have recently noticed my 9 year old cat is excessively grooming herself. I put some flea treatment on her neck but think it may have had an adverse affect and she is now getting bald patches all over her body. Please see attached. Please could you advise what I can try? I have a flea collar on her now. But not sure if it is fleas as have not seen any when grooming her. Just a lot of hair loss. Thank you

These are self inflicted scans and open wounds on her skin. This is usually a sign of skin allergies, which can be blamed on the recent flea infestation. I would recommend taking Tabitha in to your local vet for a short course of allergy medication to stop the itch. As an alternative you can try an over the counter pet friendly aloe based or oatmeal based shampoo to alleviate the itch, but the results vary. Best wishes with Tabitha. I hope she feels betrer soon. Take care.
