Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 7 years old | 6.8 lbs
I have taken my Abyssinian, Shaylee(7yrs), to see my local vet but no he had not been able to assist.. In the past six months she sometimes makes a squeaking straining sound when pooping. It looks painful. Her stools are soft and sometimes sloppy with clear mucus. She poops about four or five times a day. She is regularly de-wormed and eats Hills sensitive stomach. An X-ray was done recently for an unrelated problem and they found she had gas and thickened intestine wall. Any Suggestions? Lisa.

Inflammatory bowel disease and intestinal lymphoma are 2 common causes of chronic diarrhea and thickened intestinal walls. A biopsy is the only way to confirm this 100%. However, there are trial therapies that can be started if biopsy is not an option. Sometimes these include hypoallergenic diets, Low dose metronidazole therapy, vit B 12 injections, and sometimes steroids. I would recommend a follow up appointment with your veterinarian and discuss diagnostics and therapeutic options. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon.
