My cat eats too fast and throws up. How much wet/dry food to feed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Female | spayed | 5 years and 6 months old | 10 lbs

My cat eats to fast there for she regergitates it back up, my other cat doesn't do this but he's a different breed. Is it a maincoon thing? How much should i feed her and how often? I usually fill the bowl with dry cat food and leave it for them. Obviously this is not a good idea. I also feed them wet food but I'm not sure how much to feed them of each

IT is not normal for a cat to regurgitate or vomit regularly. It is possible Princess has mild irritable bowel disease or food sensitivity/allergy. I would recommend taking Princess to the vet to help determine the cause of the regurgitation and get guidance on ways to eliminate it. Sometimes even a diet change will help. Hope that helps

This is not normal, however it is not possible to diagnose a particular problem with just this sign Vomiting generally is caused by either over-filling the stomach with dry food ( cat fills the stomach too quickly with too much dry food, it then expands and presses on pressure receptors which protect the stomach from bursting by making the cat regurgitate, I think this could be what is happening. There could also be a gastrointestinal problem. This could be a hairball lodged somewhere in the intestine or stomach, or a food indiscretion. See if this also happens when you take away the dry food and feed only wet food. This may actually solve the problem.
