My vaccinated dog bit friend after street dog bite. Is rabies a risk?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male

our dog was vaccinated against rabies and still has one month for another vaccination. Recently it was bit by street dogs. After that our dog bit my friend. Is there possibility that my friend will get rabies? We cannot afford rabies vaccine. So if theres high possibility of getting rabies then only we'll go for vaccine.

As long as your dog has been vaccinated against rabies then he should be just fine, though you will want to make sure the bite from the other dog gets infected. Typically though the biting animal would need to be quarantined for 10days to monitor for any signs of rabies (neurological signs) As for your friend that was bitten, she should also monitor that her bite does not get infected if your dog broke skin and made her bleed. If no skin was broken there is no threat because rabies is transmitted through saliva. But, to be extra cautious. You could also keep a close eye on your dog over the next 10 days to monitor for any abnormal behaviors or neurological issues.
