My puppy has diarrhea, vomiting, and accidents. Is it cow's milk?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 23 days old

Hello! My 13 week old german shepherd was experiencing constipation so my boyfriend and I gave him cows milk after googling. Now he is having diahrrea and puking. He is also pooping and peeing in the house and He NEVER does that. I know this will pass and we have to wait it out but he still seems to be trying to push something out that he can’t get. Please get back to me

Hi there! Oh dear, the horrors of finding information on as we call it "Dr. Google"! I'm glad you reached out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach on this one :) Cow's milk is not good for dogs and can actually cause gas, constipation, and an upset stomach. I would withhold food (he can have water) for the next 6-8 hours and then try feeding Dexter a bland diet of boiled chicken, rice, and plain canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) for a couple days. If you find he is still vomiting and having diarrhea, he may need to see his veterinarian. He could have a bacterial or viral infection or even parasites that could cause similar symptoms. I hope this helps and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
