Why is my betta fish inactive, not eating, and losing color?

Hello,I have a betta which used to be very active and responsive but since almost 3 weeks it is very inactive.It stays at bottom or top.Do not eat much.The color has also faded.Please help. Pet's info: Fish | Unknown - Fish | Male

Check the water temperature. Low temps can affect appetite and activity in fish. Bettas thrive between 78 F (25.5C) and 80 F (26.6C). A heater is required in most tanks. Test the water also. Use a home test kit or submit a sample for testing. Most pet or fish stores will do this for free or for a nominal fee. High ammonia or nitrite levels can cause stress or illness. Partial water changes should be done regularly to maintain water quality if a filter is not used. Aged or conditioned water should be used instead of plain tap water. It should be temperature matched as well to prevent stress or shock.
