Why has my rabbit stopped eating pellets at one year old?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | neutered

Recently my rabbit almosy hitting the one year mark, stopped eating pellets as much as he used to. He eats very few pellets and eats everything else. I thought I heard a squeal or something but I am not 100% sure if it was him.

Hello there! I'm sorry to hear that Marshmallow isn't acting normally. Whenever a rabbit exhibits a change in eating habits, I recommend a vet visit. I'm glad to hear that he is eating other items, but the pellets are how rabbits get complete nutrition, and he really should be eating them to maintain good health. As long as he is maintaining his weight, you might try a different pellet brand to see if that entices him to eat them - mix them slowly over a week's time to prevent any gastrointestinal upset. If this doesn't help, I recommend making an appointment with your vet. The vet will give him a full physical exam, and they will get a good look at his teeth - there are certain mouth and tooth conditions that may make eating pellets difficult or even painful, and a vet has tools to examine inside the mouth. Best of luck, and I do hope that Marshmallow starts eating those pellets again soon!
