Why is my Robo hamster losing hair and has red skin but acts normal?

Hi, my roborovski is seeming to lose hair on the back of his neck and he has red skin in a separate area on his back and a bit of red on the bottom of his ears. I was wondering what this is and whether he is ill? His behaviour seems completely normal.

Hello, & thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center. Hairloss & red skin could be an indication of some type of allergic response, ectoparasites like fleas, lice or mites, or even ringworm. A quick visit with your verterinarian will sort things out quickly & make sure Seamus' skin issues are not too serious. Take care.

It is difficult to see much from the photos but from what I can see the area of hair loss is large and it looks like some scaling or scabbing. I suggest you get him to a vet for an exam. This is not something that will go away on it's own. It could be due to skin mites or other type of parasite, a bacterial infection, if he has a cage mate it could be the other hamster is chewing his hair, T-cell lymphoma, thyroid issues or kidney problem. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
