Why is my dog suddenly weak, not eating, and sleeping a lot?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 45 lbs

Hello, we have a female dog, probably german shepard, lab mix. She is around 18 months old and all of a sudden, yesterday she stopped eating her food and became really weak. She just have been sleeping and resting in our apartment, she doesnt have energy as she used to. She doesn't eat her food, minimal water consumption and seems sick , no diarrhea or vomiting so far. What can it be, thank you and hoping to hear from you soon.

That is certainly very unusual, and I am not sure of the cause. If she is suddenly weak with a poor appetite, then she may be really sick, and this could be caused by any number of things, including kidney disease, liver disease, impending GI disease, anemia, etc. If it has persisted for longer than 24 hours, then I would recommend that you have Lucy checked out by a vet as soon as possible. Hopefully a physical exam or bloodwork will uncover the cause.
