What to do if my hamster has a swollen eye? Is it an emergency?

My hamsters eye is very swollen and I'm do worried I have attached photo.

Poor Bebe! The photos are very hard to make out but I can see the really obvious swelling and what looks like damage to the top. I can't see enough to tell you exactly what is going on, but I suspect it is a traumatic injury, regardless, it needs immediate veterinary treatment. This will be very painful so will need pain relief and treatment if infection is present. If he is very tame you could soothe it with a cool tea bag before you get to the vet.
