Rabies is transmitted through the bite of an infected animal. If an animal or human is exposed to rabies through a bite wound and contracts the disease, symptoms can be begin anywhere from a few weeks to months or even years after the incident. Once symptoms begin (usually neurologic signs like incoordination, paralysis, difficulty swallowing, or seizures), the affected animal typically gets worse and dies within 7-10 days.
