Flea powder isn't terribly effective in stopping and preventing fleas. It would be best to try and use a topical or oral flea medication that is both designed to kill fleas and eggs on the body, and prevent them from returning, as well as to thoroughly vacuum and clean all bedding/areas your pets frequent. If you're looking for something to quickly kill fleas and ticks, there are flea shampoos available, however be sure to read the instructions carefully as the medications used on dogs can be harmful and toxic to cats. A safer alternative is to use something such as Dawn dish soap to kill fleas on the body and then use a fine-toothed or flea comb to remove them, then switch to a safe topical treatment.
