Why is my kitten's hard neck lump not healing after flea treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 4 months and 8 days old | 4 lbs

My 4 month old kitten has had a place on his neck since I adopted him. He did have fleas but have been gone for 3 wks. The place is hard and raised. There are a couple of scabs. I've kept a sock on his neck and he's on antibiotics from the vet but it's not getting better. He is eating different food than he was when I got him. It's not getting worse but I'm concerned it's not going away. In the pic you can kind of see that that area is actually hard under the skin. It is a cyst like area.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Moo! The pictures look like scabs or eosinophilic granuloma complexes which are allergy related. I would discuss steroids with your Vet and changing his diet to a novel protein (avoid chicken) in case it is s food allergy. Use a good flea preventative year round. I hope this helps! Good luck!
