Why did my cat vomit kibble and orange stringy stuff? Hairball?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

This is my boy Cheeto. He is roughly 3 years old. He just hacked up a small amount of kibble and orange stringy stuff. I cleaned it up already but there is still remnants of it on the towel. Could he have a hairball blockage?

He may not have a blockage, but the vomiting could have been caused by hairballs. Other common causes of vomiting in cats includes food allergy, eating too fast, GI blockage, intestinal parasites, among others. I would continue to monitor Cheeto for continued vomiting. If he continues to vomit, has diarrhea, or has a poor appetite, then it may be time to have a vet checkup. I would not attempt to change his food at this time.
