Why is my old cat peeing a lot and having litter box accidents?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 13 years and 9 months old | 7 lbs

My cat Abbie is getting old (13+ years) with body failing. She's peeing A LOT (she has drank until she vomited water up) and it doesn't smell strong a all; by my diagnosis kidney (and other things) are failing. Now peeing/pooping like 2-3 times a week outside litter box. I'm adding salt to water, but it's a band-aid to the issue. Some teeth missing, digestive sys seems week.(THIN KITTY!)Getting a mix of tuna dry food and water. Vet is AN answer, but what can I myself? Meds I think? THANKS!!!

You can't get any medication for Abby yourself, the only safe ones are prescribed by a vet. Plus you don't know what exactly is going on, so it's not good to try to treat her. Do not give her salt water, that is not recommended. Please have her seen by a vet.
