My dog woke up with a swollen face and red bumps. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 6 lbs

My dog, Jax, woke up today with a swollen face and these red bumps on his genitals. He hasn't had anything new food wise. And hasn't gotten into anything. We have had a lot of spiders around the house lately though, if that helps. You can't see the bumps in the picture but he has red bumps too down there.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. What you are describing sounds like an allergic reaction. You can give benadryl to see if this helps. The safe dose of Benadryl to give is typically 1mg per 1lb of body weight every 12 hours. If there is no improvement or the area worsens I would get him seen by your vet as soon as possible.
