My cat has a small fluid-filled cyst on her chin. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Female | spayed | 10.5 lbs

Could I have your observations / interpretation of a 0.2cm fluid-filled cyst on a cat's chin (7 year old female)? It's been the same size for approx six months, and doesn't bother her. No bleeding, discharge, or other changes. Healthy with the exception of food and environmental allergies.

This cyst looks benign (or not cancerous). The cells from the cytology performed do not show any characteristic signs of cancer cells. I would contine to monitor the cyst to make sure it does not get any larger or change in any way. If you do notice changes, you will want to have it checked out again. You may want to consider an exicsional biopsy as well. This is where the vet will surgically remove the cyst (which is possible in this case because it is fairly small) and send it to a pathologist to be examined. This way you will get a definitive answer about the cell type of origin. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.
