What causes a cloudy eye in my new stray cat? Is it serious?

Hi - we have had a stray cat adopt us in this last week - she looks like she has been through quite a bit - but she is slowly trusting us as we given her a safe place to sleep and food. She has a very cloudy eye - I have managed to get a photo of it - can you tell what it is from the photo?

It looks like a long standing, chronic issue with the eye. All I can say is that the eye probably sustained an injury that was never treated. Without examining her myself with an ophthalmoscope it is hard for me to say for sure. She is most likely blind in that eye. It does not appear to be causing her any pain so I would not worry about it at this time. Once she trusts you if you want to get her to a vet for an exam you can do that but I highly doubt anything can be done for the eye at this point.
