Hi, so I recently got a beautiful blue eyed teacup chihuahua but having him sleep by himself is HORRIBLE! He’s so attached to me and always wants to sleep with me, so recently I put him on his own bed but he cries and cries, I heard it’s bad for their heart to let them cry cause he’s so young. What should I do? The picture below is of him in his bed with one of my shirts to feel like I’m with him, it obviously did not work out, it only worked for like 30 minutes.

You did not indicate how old your puppy is. Unless he is very young (less than 4 weeks) or if there is a heart, lung or other medical condition, letting him cry will not cause him any physical harm. It will however cause him anxiety and stress, so trying some of the techniques listed below could help him to rest. You can also speak to your veterinarian about anti-anxiety medications or you may want to consider working with a veterinary behaviorist. You can find one in your area at www.acvb.org.

This can e a very difficult time for all of you (including him!) as you settle into a new routine. Leaving a radio on, giving him a hot water bottle wrapped in familiar blanket and plenty of toys can all help to encourage him at adapt to his new space. Ensure he gets plenty of active play 30mins before bedtime so he is ready to sleep and encourage him to rest in his crate during the day also - see the following link for how to create an 'indoor kennel' for him https://www.dogstrust.ie/help-advice/factsheets-downloads/indoorkennel.pdf
