I'm sorry to hear your dog is sick! The black and bloody is very concerning to me. Black stool can indicated a gastrointestinal ulcer. Dogs with kidney problems or exposure to toxin can also have black or bloody stool and this can be an emergency. I recommend you take your dog to a veterinarian right away. She may need medication to heal an ulcer or blood work to determine if she has an internal medical issue. Poor Dixie. When the stool is black, that indicates bleeding in the upper GI tract. This could be caused by a foreign body, GI ulcers, intestinal worms, or even GI tumors. It's concerning she's been feeling off for a couple of weeks, so I would take her into a vet now to get checked out. Best of luck.

Black and/or bloody stool are both reasons to visit a veterinarian. If there is bleeding in the stomach, it can result in black stool and if there is bleeding in the colon it can results in bloody stool. It sounds like Cookie needs to see your veterinarian to determine what is causing her problem and what treatment will make her feel better. In the meantime, we will often recommend a bland easily digested diet consisting of ½ cooked white rice and ½ cooked white meat chicken (boiled without any skin or bones) for dogs that aren't feeling well. If she does well with a bland diet, then you can slowly transition back to her normal diet over a few days. Good luck! I hope Cookie feels better soon.
