My cat is over-grooming with scabs and stress. What should I do?

Hey I'm worried about my cat. She's about 7 or 8 years old. I've noticed red bloody scabs inbetween her right ear and her right eye. Also, she has what looks like scabs in her nose. She is definitely over grooming herself as well. Lately she's been under stress seeing as though we've blended animal families (we introduced a puppy and a much younger cat into the picture). I just don't want to assume its stress related and it really be something more serious. Thanks.

Most common reasons for what you are describing is stress and fleas. I would start there. For stress I suggest you get some Feliway diffusers and put them in the house. It is basically "happy cat" pheromones and really seems to work wonders for stress. You can buy them at any pet store and online. https://www.feliway.com/ca_en My guess is that maybe the puppy or the kitten brought fleas into the home. Cats HATE having fleas on them and will overgroom themselves to get rid of them. Treat ALL the animals in the house for fleas. You can buy something over the counter of get something from your vet. I like Advantage II if you are going to use a topical. Here in the States you can buy it over the counter. Not sure about Canada though. Do not use Hartz or Seargent's flea products!! You also need to treat the environment for fleas (so the house and the yard if you have one). I like Knockout Spray ES. I think it is by far the BEST home flea treatment. For the yard, Advantage makes a yard spray. Again, not sure if you can get these in Canada. You can maybe order from the US and have it shipped there. Try these two things first and see what happens. If no improvement then I would get her to your vet for an exam. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
