Why is my dog drooling excessively, foamy or pink, and not eating?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 9 years and 6 months old | 55 lbs

My dog is drooling, excessively which is uncharacteristic of her. It is "foamy" white, or slightly pinkish color. She also seems to have a diminished appetite for the last 2-3 days.

Drooling is often a sign of nausea in dogs, however it can also sometimes occur if there is a dental issue such as a cracked or infected tooth, underlying illnesses, or in the case of ingesting something toxic. In minor cases of stomach upset, boiled rice and chicken for a few meals can help. However, If Kirby is drooling and has also had a reduced appetite, or is showing other signs of illness, it is best to seek veterinary care ASAP to try and find the underlying problem. Other signs of a potential issue can include vomiting, diarrhea, attempting to vomit or defecate without success, bloated abdomen, painful abdomen, staggering or confusion, which should be examined by a vet.
